Today, I am sad to announce, that Subway has fallen from my good graces. I have witnessed what has been brought to my attention multiple times, that in comparison to other Sandwich places, Subway skimps out on the condiments. After watching my wife ask three times for more olives on her sandwich and getting frustrated when she received a total 4.5 slices of olive that equaled the amount of an olive and a half, I was embarrassed.
From early on in our relationship, I had defended Subway from attacks that Blimpie made the better sandwich with more condiments. After all, how could the place I held so dear be cheating me?
When it came to making my sandwich, I watched as the employee grabbed heaps of each item I asked for and only dropped at most, three or four pieces. After I asked for more olives, and got two more slices, bringing my total up to 4 slices I couldn’t take it anymore. “Can I get more? you only put like 4 pieces on there“, ……silence. All I got as a response was a sly, shady grin. As if I had just stumbled on to a dirty secret that was forbidden to be discussed. After a few more seconds of my insistent staring, I finally received a respectable amount of olives(I would be able to taste a piece with every bite).
The friendly helpful face we had received on entering was gone, along with any patronage I held for the food chain. We quietly paid for our food and left, with hunger in our bellies and shame in my heart.
